THE RIVER OF SEVEN COLORS

La Macarena, Meta

Live a unique experience in the Serranía de La Macarena, home to Caño Cristales, one of Colombia's most extraordinary natural phenomena. During a few months of the year, the river's waters fill with color thanks to Macarenia clavigera, an endemic aquatic plant that creates an impressive mosaic of red, yellow, green, and purple hues.

Over 4 days and 3 nights, you will explore nature trails, crystal-clear natural pools, and landscapes that reveal the richness of a territory where the Amazon, the Orinoco, and the Andes converge. The experience also includes tours along the Guayabero River, encounters with local biodiversity, and moments to enjoy the tranquility of one of the country's most fascinating and remote destinations.

Wonder Tips

1. Why does the river have colors?

The phenomenon is due to Macarenia clavigera, an endemic aquatic plant that, upon receiving sunlight through the crystal-clear water, blooms showing red, fuchsia, green, and yellow tones.

2. When is the best time to visit?

The river reveals its full splendor between June and November, during the rainy season, which is when the aquatic plant blooms and paints the water currents.

3. How do we protect the ecosystem?

Caño Cristales is a fragile ecosystem. Therefore, the use of sunscreens or chemical repellents is prohibited when entering the water, ensuring the survival of the plant.
