Travel Seasons

All year round

Ideal Season

The arid climate allows visiting this destination at any time of the year. However, the months with less rainfall facilitate walking through the clay formations and improve visibility of the stars.

April to November

Brief Rainy Season

Rains are usually short and isolated. When it rains, the red and gray colors of the earth intensify enormously, and slight green tones sprout from the dry vegetation.

Wonder Tips

Why is Tatacoa not a traditional desert?

Tatacoa is actually a tropical dry forest undergoing a natural desertification process. Its arid appearance is due to soil erosion caused by rain, wind, and the passage of time, which has given rise to very characteristic reddish and gray clay formations.

Why is Tatacoa ideal for stargazing?

Its dry climate reduces cloud formation and humidity in the air, improving astronomical visibility. Additionally, the low light pollution allows for very clear observation of the Milky Way, planets, and constellations, even without a telescope on clear nights.

How does the weather influence the experience?

Tatacoa has a semi-arid climate with high solar radiation during the day, generating high temperatures. In contrast, the lack of humidity makes the nights cooler. Therefore, the best times to explore are early morning and late afternoon.
